C.V Hope Strachan is a Politician from The Bahamas who is the Member of Parliament for the Sea Breeze Constituency. Strachan is also a Cabinet Minister, serving in the Christie Administration Perry Christie, Prime Minister as Minister of Financial Services and Local Government and also has responsibility for Trade and Industry. Hope Strachan née Ingraham born December 1, 1960 on the island of New Providence to Maxine Adderley and Eric Ingraham. She is the granddaughter of Mary Naomie Ingraham, who championed the Suffragette Movement in the Bahamas during the early sixties and she along with several other female luminaries was successful in obtaining voting rights for Bahamian women. As a result, in the 1962 general elections women voted for the first time in The Bahamas. It is this rich persevering legacy that has inspired Mrs. Strachan to pursue a political career. Minister Strachan has three children Danielle, Jared and Justin. Political Highlights: Ms. Strachan was sworn in as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport on May 10, 2012, and later was elevated to the position of Minister of Financial Services in January 2015 on the resignation of former Financial Services Minister Ryan Pinner, Bahamian Politician Previous Ministerial portfolio: Ground transportation, road traffic management, motor vehicles registration and licensing, drays and surreys, the Postal Service, inter-island passengers, freight and mail service, air transport licensing, Nassau Flight Services, Relations with the Airport Authority, meteorology, relations with The Bahamas Maritime Authority, ship registration, maritime affairs, the Port. Mrs. Strachan was appointed to the Senate in 2007 by the Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie, Leader of the Opposition Progressive Liberal Party. Education: Mrs. Strachan’s educational foundation began at Mother Donaldson’s Pre-school. She attended the Willard Patton Primary School on Augusta Street in Nassau where she was awarded a scholarship from the PTA of this primary school to attend St. John’s College High School from which she graduated in 1977. After a short stint in the banking industry between 1979 and 1982, she left the Bahamas to study at Holborn Law Tutors, London, England where she obtained an LLB (Honours) degree from the University of London. After being sworn in as a Member of Middle Temple Inn, she was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 1989 and subsequently to the Bahamas Bar that same year.
